However, I think folks don't realize that there is still a reason for WOTC to keep some cards rare and expensive. I don't like plane-specific names for cards like these. I agree that it would be awesome to be able to ensure the potential for reprints on these. TL DR - Anything that heavily synergizes with fetchlands is good. This nuance wasn't obvious immediately to most players, so the cards were sleepers. The odds of drawing one and being behind in tempo due to playing it tapped, is outweighed by its versatility in being able to be searched up nearly anytime and having the flexibility of grabbing it for the extra color or grabbing a shockland to bring something in untapped. It comes in on their end step, then it becomes your turn and congrats, you untap. If there is ever a time when you have a fetchland ready to crack, and your opponent passes to end of turn and you don't need to cast anything? Crack your fetch and grab a triome. They have 3 basic land types, which means that you can pull them from your deck with the fetchlands - ], ], etc.īut they enter tapped? Why are they so good? Because they are searchable color-fixing insurance even just as a single slot in the deck. Other comments have given you the general answer but I will give you a tidbit of insight as to why they are so good. Not only do these feel pretty awkward functioning as swamp-mountain-forest-etceteras, but they also permanently fill up the empty seats that could potentially have been filled with a really cool set of 5 more triomes instead, and that makes me a little sad. While I didn’t personally care much for Ikoria from a general standpoint of design and creative direction, I think the triomes were a real hit. It’s almost certain that we’ll continue to call them that, because it’s a short, simple, and incredibly effective word that, while totally made up, makes complete and perfect sense to any player that hears it. On the one hand they absolutely nailed them aesthetically, and I truly think they did a fantastic job with the art direction and execution here.īut on the other hand… the word “triome” really did a good job of capturing the feel of the bizarre, sophisticated alien landscapes that they were.
